Fred W. Nolen, Ph.D.

Fred W. Nolen, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist with more than 30 years experience consulting with, lecturing to and treating America’s veteran population and the author of Combat Trauma (PTSD). Dr. Nolen has been in private practice since 1975 and is past president of Associated Social and Clinical Services, Inc. He has been a federal circuit appeals court expert witness on combat-induced PTSD since 1986, was declared an expert witness on child abuse regarding both victims and perpetrators in 2004 and has been a forensic consultant for more than two decades. Dr. Nolen’s work on behalf of veterans includes service at state mental hospitals and prisons where he has facilitated discussion groups and served on the boards of halfway houses designed to meet their special needs upon release. He has contributed his expertise to DFS agencies, juvenile departments, and federal and state courts. Dr. Nolen has extensive knowledge and experience treating victims during the waxing and waning periods of trauma treatment. He has taught at Columbia College, Stephen’s College, the University of Indiana-Bloomington, Spalding University, Ivy Tech and the University of Missouri-Columbia. Dr. Nolen received his Ph.D., M.A. and BS from the University of Missouri-Columbia. He is a member of the International Society for the Study of Trauma, the Iraq and Afghanistan Veteran’s Association and the National Association to Prevent Child Sexual Abuse.
