Electrical Stimulation in Pediatric Rehabilitation

According to the Global Burden of Diseases, neurological disorders are the leading cause of disability throughout theworld (Carroll, 2019). For therapists tasked with treating these disorders, the sheer number of possible treatment interventions can be overwhelming, especially when trying toensure evidence-based care.

This course will explain the neurophysiological basis of electrical stimulation, provide up-to-date literature supporting its use, and provide hands-on learning to allow for immediate incorporation into therapy sessions. Two different methods for locating a motor unit will be taught and then practiced, as well as additional lab time for trialing electrical stimulation on various muscle groups. Clinicians will develop confidence inincorporating electrical stimulation into their daily practice.

The content of this program is germane to children, students and clients ages 0- 18.
