Summit works with numerous state boards and accrediting authorities nationwide to offer continuing education to PTs, OTs, and SLPs. In many states this includes the local chapters or sections of the board of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), the American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA), and the American Speech and Hearing Association (ASHA). IL PTs need 40 credits and PTAs need 20 credits every two years. 3 credits of ethics, 1 credit of sexual harassment training, 1 credit of implicit bias training and 1 credit cultural competency training are required. For those working with the adult populations age 26 or older are also required to complete 1 credit of training on Alzheimer's Disease and Other Dementias. The license cycle ends September 30th on even numbered years for PTs, and on odd numbered years for PTAs.
