5:00pm, make your way to the main room for an event welcome and introduction to your Summit instructors and team.

We’ll jump right in to stroke content immediately following the welcome event. This session is a combined session for both PT(A)s and OT(A)s Stroke rehabilitation has undergone a tremendous evolution over the past 20+ years. Understanding how we got to where we are, as well as what the latest developments tell us about the current and future directions of our field can inform us on how to think about why certain interventions work well while others never seem to be fruitful. The latest research in motor learning and neuroscience continue to open our eyes to the power of not just what we do, but how we and the patient do it. This can greatly impact outcomes and make the limited resource of therapy time much more beneficial. Attendees to this course will gain a better knowledge of the current state of neurorehabilitation and use this to reenergize and reevaluate their thought processes and ideas about their approach to therapy for patients with stroke with these exciting evidence-based concepts. They should also be able to take information from this course to advance their practice creatively with innovation and up-to-date knowledge.

Immediately following the Evolution of Stroke Rehab session, we’ll host a casual cocktail event until approximately 8:00pm with complimentary hors d'oeuvres, soft drinks, and beer/wine. Meet other attendees, get to know the instructors, and get a feel for vendor offerings.

To ensure your evenings in Nashville are memorable ones, you’ll receive a nightly program of options close by to explore. We recommend making restaurant reservations or getting any event tickets as soon as possible.

Start your morning with complimentary breakfast beginning at 7am. You’ll find “topic tables” available for those who want to meet other therapists and discuss specific stroke topics over breakfast.

The first session for today is a combined PT(A) and OT(A) session. This session will cover the benefits of high intensity aerobic training and its effects on neuroplasticity and use this information to discuss application in clinical care for both upper and lower extremity rehabilitation. Physical and Occupational therapists are at the forefront of advancements in neuroplasticity and recovery post-stroke and should have the knowledge and tools to bring these advancements to life in clinical practice.

We’ll continue our sessions discussing low tech solutions, with separate tracks for PT(A)s and OT(A)s.

OT: Low Tech Solutions to Improve Activities of Daily Living in Stroke Rehabilitation | Alan Deal, OTR/L

In this session occupational therapists will examine low tech strategies to improve stroke rehabilitation as it relates to activities of daily living. This course will focus on creating effective outcomes in clinics without a significant budget for technology and the latest equipment for stroke rehab.

PT: Low Tech Solutions to Optimize Mobility and Function in Stroke Rehabilitation | Geoff Mosley, PT, DPT, NCS

In this session physical therapists will identify and explore tools and equipment necessary to utilize evidence-based physical therapy interventions including devices for balance reeducation, high intensity training, and motor learning. Participants will also learn how to apply creativity and resourcefulness to develop their own low tech solutions for clinical practice.

Take a break to digest the content of the morning with complimentary lunch and discussion with vendors.

After lunch, we’ll jump into the highly anticipated technology-focused session (with professions combined). This session will highlight current and emerging high-tech options for stroke rehabilitation to promote function in our clients. Technology to promote improved mobility and daily activity performance will be explored to facilitate functional outcomes for our clients and ultimately increase their quality of life. Through a combination of evidence-based discussion and hands-on lab to improve clinicians’ exposure to current options, this course focuses on building treatment techniques for practitioners who work in stroke rehabilitation settings.

Following the technology session, we’re making time for you to continue to explore technology – experience VR headsets, ESTIM equipment, and other offerings by vendors.

We’ll again jump into separate tracks for PT(A)s and OT(A)s with sessions covering a host of challenging dysfunctions you encounter.

OT: Comprehensive Treatment Methods for Challenging Dysfunctions Post-Stroke | Cate Valentino, OTR/L OTD, MHSc, MAAL, BS This occupational therapy-specific session will cover treatment approaches for a multitude of challenging dysfunctions, including Pusher Syndrome, impulsiveness, and emotional lability, impacting their ability to return to the activities and occupations they love. This course is centered around investigating these dysfunctions and behaviors that inhibit ease of function for our patients, impact caregiver success, and pose unique challenges for us as therapists to overcome to return our clients to their lives and activities. By identifying challenging dysfunctions and increasing our literacy in predicting and understanding the etiology behind such obstacles, we will be able to serve our clients better and enhance our clinical approaches.

PT: Comprehensive Treatment Methods for Challenging Dysfunctions Post-Stroke | Geoff Mosley, PT, DPT, NCS This session for physical therapists will focus on treating patients with extreme challenges such as severe ataxia and severe hemispatial neglect. This course is designed to offer a look at these challenging dysfunctions from a systematic and evidence-based perspective, and to offer new tools for physical therapists to design and implement effective intervention strategies from novel interventions to tried-and-true training with a fresh angle.

We’ll finish our event with a combined session covering motor learning strategies. This session will examine all aspects of motor learning related to stroke rehab, including historical perspectives, current trends, and novel strategies to determine which are the best options for clinical practice. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in critical analysis of neuroscience and clinical research, examine clinical application through case studies and group discussion, and develop strategies for practical implementation. By learning more about the most effective and evidence-based motor learning strategies, clinicians can immediately improve their clinical practice for patients post-stroke.

While our core content is all wrapped up, we hope you’ll spend some extra time networking with other attendees, exploring vendors, and providing any feedback to the Summit team. We’ll officially wrap up around 6pm!
