Untreated edema can lead to more severe problems such as stasis dermatitis, discomfort/pain, venous ulcerations, progressed lymphedema and decreased mobility. By recognizing and intervening early, we as clinicians can makea significant impact on quality of life for our clients and possibly prevent the progression of this disease. i thought a warning about reducing edema too fast could overwhelm the heart would be good...unless that is out of date info. also with the type of edema that gets better with elevation i always warn patients not to wait until late in the day because it can increase urine production at night and disrupt sleep.
