Additional Information

Muscle mass decreases at a rate of about 3-8% per decade after age 30 and possibly faster after age 60. Loss of muscle mass and resulting loss of core and extremity strength may be contributing factors to postural changes and decreased function in older adults. Systematically progressing core training in an exercise program is vital to the health and wellness of older adults.

This course applies Pilates-based principles in conjunction with functional movement patterns to maximize core activation and improve functional carry over. Participants will practice each principle and application tofunctional movements learning appropriate modifications based on client needs. Participants will also discover techniques that facilitate activation of core muscle groups that can be applied the next day in the clinic. Ultimately, participants will improve their exercise prescription strategies, implementation, patient compliance and client function.
