Additional Information

Muscle mass decreases at a rate of about 3-8% per decade after age 30, and possibly faster after age 60. Loss of muscle mass and resulting loss of core and extremity strength may be contributing factors to postural changes and decreased function in older adults. Systematically progressing core training in an exercise program is vital to the health and wellness of older adults. This course applies Pilates-based principles in conjunction with functional movement patterns to maximize core activation and improve functional carry over. Participants will learn techniques that facilitate activation of the core and appropriate modifications based on client needs. Ultimately, participants will improve their exercise prescription strategies, and be more effective at instructing and implementing exercises to improve core strength, posture, and function.

Highlights

  • Innovative strategies to improve core stability and posture in older adults
  • Easily implement multiple variations and modifications with any client in the clinic or at home
  • Systematically progress a strengthening program to improve balance and decrease falls

Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers

i totally understand that the instructor was ill and she did the best she could. i found it really difficult as it progressed and she had a harder time - to listen. i got uncomfortable with her discomfort. harder to listen. saying this, she did the best she could in a bad situation. not easy for her!

it's good information - the review of the anterior, lateral, posterior chains examples of how we can address deficits through exercise.

practice makes perfect. this instructional video encouraged me to think outside of my current box to work patients in realms that are more challenging to them and more patient specific.
