Additional Information

As our aging population continues to grow in the United States, those with dementia are becoming more prevalent and commonplace in the healthcare system. Deficits associated with these challenging pathologies can make it difficult to engage these patients in necessary rehabilitation activities for improved function. Current literature indicates IWDs can benefit from rehabilitation as much as adults without dementia. With the proper knowledge and training, rehabilitation clinicians can provide dementia-specific, person-centered care, which can maximize rehabilitationoutcomes by maintaining or even improving physicalperformance and function and thereby reduce healthcare costs. This course will provide you practical techniques that are applicable across all care settings to improvecommunication and enhance participation with patients having cognitive impairment.
