Additional Information

In 2012, the estimated number of people in the United States with Multiple Sclerosis was 403,630 (Dikthornsakul, et al, 2016). This statistic demonstrates the estimated number of patients that would benefit from rehabilitation services. Multiple Sclerosis is a diagnosis that leads to a myriad of sequelae, such as imbalance, incoordination, neurological fatigue, and spasticity. These sequelae are most effectivelytreated with rehabilitation services by a physical therapist, physical therapy assistant, occupational therapist, or occupational therapist assistant. Unfortunately, research has proven that many patients with MS do not seek rehabilitationservices, (Helland, et al, 2015). As an effect, many rehabilitation therapists see a small number of these patients. Many feel that more training is needed to effectively treat this population. This 2-hour course will provide evidence-based and best practice interventions to effectively address MS related imbalance, incoordination, neurological fatigue, andspasticity. Participants will obtain a toolkit of easy-to-use interventions for any setting and any level of MS patient.

Highlights

  • Evidence-based techniques to manage balance, coordination, spasticity, and fatigue in the MS patient at any level of functioning
  • Add to your toolkit of effective best practices for the MS patient

Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants

i was hoping to learn more about fatigue management. was surprised by the basics with the functional testing. was satisfied to learn about the fatigue scale and can incorporate that into treatment, but was hoping for more info to carry into treatment.

i was a little alarmed by some of the inaccuracies in this course. i have ms. one of the things i don do most alarming was the instructor talking about symptoms going away at the end of a flare. nerve damage is permanent. there may be less intense symptoms, but i promise you they do not go away.
