Implementing an Exercise-Based Approach to Treat Progressive Neurological Diagnoses
Price:$219.99
Over 1.2 million people in the US are diagnosed with Parkinson's and this is expected to double by 2030. There isno cure for Parkinson's and other chronic progressive neurological diseases such as MS, dementia, and ALS currently. However, research has demonstrated the effectiveness of exercise on slowing down disease progression and improving motor control recovery for our neurological population. As physical and occupational therapists, our expertise is in applying exercise physiology to pathology. We are the experts in pairing these two components and teaching our patients how to utilize them fortheir highest possible quality of life and performance of activities of daily living. If you want to do more than just helpyour patient compensate and give them the tools to target the disease itself, this class is for you. Learn how to take theexciting and growing body of research and impact not only your client's quality of life, but your own. Help your clients not only get better but stay better.
This workshop will bring you up to date on current research that demonstrates the effectiveness of exercise as a tool for modifying disease progression in neurological diagnoses. Participants will leave with a variety of treatment ideas and the tools to modify or progress these for any setting or impairment level. Didactic lab-based activities using case studies will allow the participants to enhance their skill in designing interventions that utilize the research presented. You will be able to immediately put into place the treatmentideas and progressions you have learned.

meredith roberts lo is a knowledgeable instructor, especially for parkinson's. i took her 6 hour parkinson's class and very much enjoyed it. unfortunatly though i feel this class was a waste of time after taking her parkinson's course. many of the videos were the same. she covered exercise as medicine pretty well in her parkinson's class. this course could have been less than 6 hours. it was laborious to get through. she had detail that would be good for a new grad but i have been treating neurological patients in an iru for 15 years. this was not the course for me.

after taking this course i feel the title used was not the best choice for the content. i work in a home health setting and felt most of the content was not applicable for my patient's or setting. i don't have the option for group therapy, as well as my clients are unable to preform the exercises or tasks. i also am unsure of if my clients were able to preform the exercises she gave, how i would document treatments in away to get reimbursement\/further visits.
