Additional Information

Walking is the number one goal for patients recovering from a stroke. No matter which rehab setting they enter, one of the first things they say is, "I want to walk better." As rehabilitation specialists, our challenge is to make that happen. To do so, we must first understand the foundations of gait—normal mechanics, how stroke disrupts symmetry, and the compensatory strategies that emerge as a result. Once we can analyze gait dysfunction systematically,we can apply evidence-based interventions to restore function and enhance mobility.

This course will provide a step-by-step approach to gait assessment and intervention, equipping participants with practical strategies for structuring targeted treatments. Participants will explore a range of interventions tailored to individual patient needs, integrating functional outcome measure results with patient-specific goals and comorbidities. Through a combination of creative interventions and video demonstrations, we will examine how to challenge and optimize gait recovery in different clinical settings. By the endof the course, attendees will develop the skills necessary for confident clinical decision-making and effective gait rehabilitation in patients with stroke.
