Additional Information

Patients with chronic pulmonary conditions are often encountered in the clinical setting by rehabilitation professionals. Worldwide, there are nearly 545 million people living with a chronic pulmonary condition such as COPD,pulmonary fibrosis, or lung cancer. These conditions often lead to total disability, hospitalization, and are the third leading cause of death worldwide. Typically, these conditions lead to a progressive worsening of lung function leading to dyspnea, decreased activity tolerance, and decreased independence with functional mobility tasks and activities of daily living. Therapy programs designed to maximize physical activity and activity participation have been shown to not only improve patient prognosis, but improve overall health, patient independence, and increase quality of life. Utilizing evidence-based assessment and treatment strategies will allow clinicians to maximize functional outcomes with this patient population

Due to the often complicated presentation of these patients, clinicians may not feel fully prepared to manage the complex needs of these patients. During this course, attendees will gain a greater understanding of the causes, risk factors, pathophysiology and etiology of these conditions. This will drive greater confidence when working with this patient population. Additionally, attendees will gain an improved understanding of the medical treatment of these conditions. By learning evidence-based assessment strategies and treatment interventions, clinicians will comeaway with practical knowledge of the most effective andefficient treatment strategies. Attendees will have theopportunity to practice treatment strategies throughout the course and apply the information learned to multiple case study examples.
