Approximately 90 million American adults have been diagnosed with a vestibular disorder making physical and occupational therapists key members of the evaluation and rehabilitation team for patients with motion intolerance or imbalance disorders. Vestibular disorders can cause dizziness, imbalance, and subsequent risk of falls, thereby greatly limiting mobility, function, and quality of life. Using vestibular rehabilitation, therapists can guide a patient through the course of their dysfunction, assist them inrecovery, and help them to get back to their previous level of function. To effectively assess and treat these clients, therapists must have a solid understanding of the anatomy, structure, and function of the vestibular system, and utilize evidence-based assessment, treatment and outcome measures in their treatment planning and documentation.
This course is the second part of the 3-part series on vestibular rehabilitation. In this course, instruction will focuson creating a plan of care while carefully addressing priorities of treatment review. Different clinical algorithms will be discussed to simplify the decision-making process.Evidence-based treatment protocols will be shared for ease of use in your place of practice. Creative treatment ideas will be demonstrated using patient videos and case studies. This workshop is applicable to both clinicians without vestibularexperience while maintaining the interest and expanding the clinical skills of the more experienced vestibular rehabilitationclinician.
