This course provides a comprehensive exploration of proprioception and our body's ability to sense position and movement. Led by Dr. John Jowers, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS, the presentation covers the physiological and neurological foundations of proprioception, how it affects human movement and rehabilitation, and the impact of proprioceptive deficits on health and injury recovery. Participants will learn how to assess proprioception using evidence-based methods, identify risk factors for proprioceptive dysfunction, and differentiate between proprioception, balance, and kinesthesia.
The course also delves into treatment strategies, including indications for proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation, unstable surface training, and functional rehabilitation exercises tailored to enhance motor control and prevent injuries. Advanced techniques, such as sensory integration and training with reduced visual input, are explored to optimize patient outcomes. Additionally, the session highlights practical approaches for improving patient compliance and incorporating proprioceptive training into clinical practice. By the end of the course, participants will be equipped with the knowledge and skills to assess, treat, and promote proprioceptive health for diverse patient populations.
Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers

the course material wasn't bad, however the presenter was terrible. his monotone voice was hard to listen to, and it felt as if he was just reading off some script. there was a lot of information he was "reading" that wasn't presented on the slides. also, most of these exercises are not appropriate for home health patients or assisted living.

the controversy part is good to know, but the practical application is what really interested me in this course. i appreciated going through the sample exercise plans, they gave me some good ideas and the theory behind it to use with my patients.
