Additional Information

How can we build muscles in patients that can't do all the regular exercises? A question patients and clients may be wondering after surgery or due to age or other physicalconstraints. Muscle atrophy starts very soon after injury orsurgery and we lose approximately 1% of our muscle massand 3% of our strength annually after age 60. Muscles are highly metabolically active organs involved not only inmovement, but glucose regulation and bone density. Under normal neuromuscular function atrophy takes months to change. Immobilization, pain and general sedentary lifestyles further complicate exercise selection and tolerance.

Through video demonstration and interaction to review Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training mechanisms this coursewill help you discover where BFR may fit in your rehabilitation programs. Muscle atrophy and associated weakness may bethe biggest issues we can address in rehabilitation. Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) training offers a way to augmentmuscle and strength gains when Progressive Resistance Exercise is not feasible or not tolerated. You will leave confident in safe, yet appropriate, application of this often- misunderstood modality.

Highlights

  • Improve hypertrophy in clients with limits on traditional heavy resistance training
  • The physiology behind Blood Flow Restriction (BFR) andkey safety considerations
