Additional Information

Early mobilization in the ICU and the acute care setting is critical to restore safe functional mobility and ADL independence for acute care patients. Due to the profound challenges acute care patients face in their recovery and treatment course, the New England Journal of Medicine headed up a comprehensive clinical trial called TEAMs (Treatment of Mechanically Ventilated Adults with EarlyActivity and Mobilization). The trial focused on establishing best-practice data for early mobilization. Current research has poured in revealing the staggering incidence of ICU-acquiredweakness negatively impacting ICU acute care patient outcomes. This course will cover critical treatment components associated with our compromised patients in the acute hospital setting. We will focus on understanding what is happening from a transdisciplinary perspective and how best to achieve lasting functional outcomes to return patients to their activities of choice.
