The glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RAs) are relatively newer pharmacologic agents for type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D), with excellent efficacy for glycemic control. They reduce glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c), have low glycemic variability, and a low risk of hypoglycemia. GLP-1 RAs also exert extra-glycemic effects that include delayed gastric emptying, reduced appetite, and weight loss. Join a deep dive into a new wave of medications helping people achieve weight loss goals. This course explores the science behind these drugs, their effectiveness, and potential side effects. We discuss who might benefit the most, how to manage potential side effects, and strategies for rehabilitation during treatment. We will also explore GLP-1 medications forlong-term weight management in obesity. Covering commonside effects, along with the importance of health maintenance. The episode also discusses the natural shift from weight loss to maintenance and the need for potential long-term use. It emphasizes recognizing obesity as a chronic disease and considers special patient factors, while stressing adherence and education about the medication's safety and efficacy.
