Additional Information

Since 2007 the National Human Trafficking Hotline has processed approximately 51,919 cases of human trafficking in the United States. However, most cases go unreported. Signs of human trafficking need to be recognized so more victims can receive the assistance they need to be freed from their trafficker. Healthcare providers have the unique opportunity to work directly with victims and sometimes this interaction might be the only interaction the victim has with someone who is not their trafficker. Human trafficking is a growing problem throughout communities in the United States and it is important for healthcare providers to join in the effort to recognize and prevent human trafficking.

This two- hour course will inform participants of the issue of human trafficking in the United States. Participants willlearn about sex and labor trafficking including the strategies of manipulation used by the trafficker and the unique vulnerabilities of the victims and rehabilitation and recovery needs of victims. Participants will also learn about laws and policies surrounding human trafficking in the United States. In this course, participants will learn how to recognize signs of human trafficking in their patients as well as how to treat and assist victims and notify proper authorities of human trafficking concerns.
