Additional Information

Individuals with lower extremity amputations (LEA) require focused and specialized physical therapy interventions to maximize prosthesis use over all surfaces in the home and community, including ramps and stairs. Physical therapists must be able to teach their patients with LEA how to utilize different prosthetic components, such as mechanical versus microprocessor knees, to optimize their mobility over all surfaces and in all mobility situations. This course will educatephysical therapists and assistants on how to train individuals with LEA to negotiate level and unlevel surfaces, ramps, andstairs using their prosthetic devices through demonstrations, videos, and descriptions. Participants will be able to translate this information to the clinic to help individuals with LEA maximize their gait safely and efficiently in all settings.
