Additional Information

The pelvic floor is not only one of the core muscles, it also plays a role in keeping urine, stool and gas in the body, and allowing urine, stool and gas out. People with pelvic floor dysfunction can present with symptoms of not being able to contain waste as desired and/or not being able to eliminate it effectively. Around 80% of the U.S. population suffers with some form of lower urinary tract symptoms and 42 million people in the U.S. have constipation symptoms. Therapists are working with people who suffer with these symptoms every day and should be able to discuss and educate patients on strategies to improve these and guide patients to seek additional help when necessary. Attendees of this workshop will examine some symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction along with strategies to help patients with these symptoms improve their pelvic floor function.

Highlights

  • Assess forms of pelvic floor dysfunction related to incontinence and constipation.
  • Integrate pelvic floor related history, assessments, and treatments into your PT/OT practice.

Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Athletic Trainers

phrases like "people with vagina, people with penises..." not even once did she say male or female. for me, male and female are biology terms and we don't need to completely avoid them.

i mentioned in the q%26a that i appreciate the various ways the presenter explained how to cue out patients on how to perform tasks and alternatives with manual work. i am a male clinician and i feel more confident with being able to more appropriately help\/answer\/direct my female patients
