Dr. Vern Swanson Jr, PT, DPT, Ph.D., NCS has over 25 years of specialized experience with the amputee population. This includes 12 years of experience working as a prosthetic technician and 13 years working as a physical therapist who specializes in prosthetics and amputee care. As a prosthetic technician, Dr. Swanson assisted in the manufacturing of lower extremity and upper extremity artificial limbs. As a physical therapist, he has treated individuals with amputation in the acute care, outpatient, skilled nursing, and inpatient rehab settings. Dr. Swanson has acted as lead instructor in the prosthetics portion of the DPT curriculum at Florida Gulf Coast University and in the PTA program at Hodges University. He has also taught multiple in-person CEU courses on various topics in prosthetics and amputee care. He also has conducted research examining the effects of a proprioceptive protocol utilizing a laser head light on cervical proprioception in older community dwelling adults. Dr. Swanson has acted as lead instructor in the vestibular and balance portion of the DPT curriculum at Florida Gulf Coast University. Dr. Swanson is currently the director of therapy at Integrative Rehab in Estero, FL.
