Additional Information

Pediatric hemiplegia occurs in approximately one-third of all children with cerebral palsy, and in over 90% of children with pediatric stroke. In some cases, pediatric practitioners are wary of using proven neurorehabilitation treatments withtheir clients for fear that they are not appropriate and/or safe in the younger population. Participants will be able to moreeffectively address hemiparesis in the pediatric population by understanding the evidence behind specific interventions and being armed with the knowledge to apply these techniques into practice. Pediatric practitioners have a responsibility to address hemiparesis early on to promote function for years to come, and they should be fully equipped to ensure they are providing the most efficacious treatment for their patients.

This workshop will enable the attendees to treat hemiparesis more effectively in the pediatric population through the use of lecture, videos, and labs. This session offers participants the chance to explore neurorehabilitation interventions such as NMES, strapping tape, splinting, and virtual reality. In-person attendees will benefit from hands-on labs to practice these techniques. Virtual participants willreceive instruction on the practical application of each intervention through recorded demonstrations and discussions. Participants will be fully prepared to begin implementing neurorehabilitation strategies into sessions upon completion of the workshop.

The content of this program is germane to children, students and clients ages 0- 18.
