Additional Information

From the late 20th century to today, rehabilitation has undergone a significant transformation—embracing technology, holistic care, community integration, personalized approaches, and telehealth, all with a growing emphasis on accessibility and equity. Among these advancements, artificial intelligence (AI) has emerged as a powerful tool in rehabilitation, enhancing assessment, screening, treatment, monitoring, and overall outcomes for individuals undergoing care.

AI is reshaping how we restore and enhance physical, mental, and social functioning for people living with physical and cognitive disabilities. It enables personalized therapies, predicts patient progress, and supports the design of tailored assistive technologies. Although AI in rehabilitation is still anemerging field, it is supported by a growing body of digitalhealth research and early-stage clinical initiatives.

AI-powered rehabilitation technology represents a transformative frontier that warrants deeper exploration andproof-of-concept validation. Research in this area aims to optimize interventions, improve accessibility, and personalize care—advancing recovery and quality of life for individuals with acute or chronic conditions.
