With a wide-ranging scope of presentations and compounding issues, traumatic brain injuries (TBI) present a unique and dynamic challenge to physical therapists. From disorders of consciousness to mild brain injuries or concussion, PTs must be adequately equipped to evaluate, treat, and progress a wide variety of impairments as well asunderstand the unique aspects of behavior and cognitionthat must be incorporated into their management.
This course will discuss in detail the complexities and new updates within the pathophysiology and classification/treatment of TBIs for physical therapists. Through discussion and case examples, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of the primary method of TBI classification and how to leverage this knowledge for optimal practice and patient performance for the scope of TBIs, fromdisorders of consciousness to concussion. Novel technology and medical advancements in TBI rehab will also be explored with discussion of implementation considerations both currently and in the future. Attendees will leave this course empowered and confident in their ability to manage all the complexities of TBI rehab.
