Additional Information

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 61 million adults, or 1 in 4 people in the United States live with a disability. As service providers, we are tasked with working with people living with a disability be it a temporary or a chronic condition in the hopes of improving their quality of life and independence. Expanding knowledge through disability training and education can help to improve our interactions with the disabled community and create a more inclusive environment for those we serve. This course will provide the most up-to-date information on health disparities, disability definitions, effective communicationpractices, The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requirements, and barriers to inclusion through ableist and forced intimacy practices. This information will provide valuable insights into managing health conditions and fostering resilience in the disabled population.

Highlights

  • Expand your knowledge of disabilities, the disabled community, and how health disparities affect those in the disabled community
  • Best practice guidelines to avoid ableist behaviors to make your practice or services more inclusive

Target Audience: Physical Therapists, Physical Therapist Assistants, Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy Assistants, Speech-Language Pathologists

in many courses when an instructor shows a power point slide that has a graphic or chart that has smaller font, it's nearly impossible to see it well on the computer screen. i feel like i'm missing some of the information because there is no way to increase the size of the powerpoint slide and it's just too small to see on a computer.

the videos were exceptional at illustrating her point and further promoting the topic. my favorite was the video of the man using a wheelchair who was being interviewed by his new physician. it was such a good and important lesson\/reminder for clinicians to see the patient as a person first! hope all new\/ old grads can see it.
