Pulmonary health conditions adversely affect tens of millions of Americans with financial costs exceeding 50 billion dollars annually. Far beyond the numbers, people suffering with pulmonary issues frequently experience physical loss offunction, immune compromise, and debilitating anxiety and depression. Tai Chi, which is typified by slow, graceful movements and coordinated breathing has been shownrepeatedly in health-related research to enhance physical function, breath capacity, cardiovascular endurance as well as emotional and psychological wellbeing in people sufferingwith pulmonary conditions. More than just movement practices however Tai Chi is also steeped in an ancient philosophy advocating balance and harmony in all areas of life.
This holistic training focuses on a comprehensive set of core self-care practices including gentle movement, coordinated breathing, mindfulness, and self-massage designed to enhance cardiopulmonary and physical function as well as ameliorate chronic disease symptoms. Course participants will both learn the evidence base forRehabilitative Tai Chi and experience the comprehensive set of Tai Chi practices first-hand through interactive labs. Following this seminar, professionals will have not only a new tool in their toolbox, but also a powerful new way to empower their clients to help heal themselves.
