To enhance awareness during National Stroke Awareness Month, the National Stroke Association launched the “Faces of Stroke” public awareness campaign in 2011 aimed at showing the personal side of stroke while educating about lifesaving stroke information. Here are some highlights from a few of the stories – click on the name to read the full story.
- Mitchell R. – “After my stroke at age five, the doctors said I may never walk again; my physical therapist (PT) said “we’ll see about that.” That’s where my long road to becoming a PT began.”
- Elle R. – “Our daughter Elle survived a stroke at one day old. Had it not been for a random visit to the pediatrician on her third day, the symptoms could have gone unnoticed. She is now four and a half months and working weekly with physical therapists.”
- Daniel S. – “My experience enables me to comfort the families of stroke victims as it is happening. My continued goals in life include helping others who have had a stroke to learn to overcome their difficulties, and especially how to have a good emotional and mental outlook on their new lifestyle.”
