According to the book “The Leaders Guide to Unconscious Bias” by Pamela Fuller, Mark Murphy and Anna Chow we take in about 11 million pieces of information each second but, only can process about forty of those. This means that 99.9% of the information we receive must be dealt with by our unconscious mind. We simply can’t stop and make thoughtful assessments of every piece of information that comes our way.

We handle this by taking short cuts- this helps us make quick decisions.  What we need to remember is no one person is one dimensional. Our mental shortcuts can be flawed and can directly contradict our conscious beliefs and goals. Bias in the Workplace will assist the healthcare practitioner on identifying their own bias, developing strategies to reduce potential treatment inequalities which can impact our patient’s health outcomes and access to care. In addition, this course will educate the attendee on how unconscious bias affects our behavior and assist you in examining your own implicit bias in healthcare as well as, what resources are available to the practitioner.

Benefits to Watching:

  • Increase awareness of our own unconscious biases
  • Identify and review strategies to overcome your own unconscious bias that relates to inequality in healthcare practices
